"Fatal Crash Claims 10 Lives and Injures 48 on Abuja-Kaduna Road, FRSC Reports"
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported a tragic accident on the Abuja-Kaduna road resulting in the loss of 10 lives and leaving 48 individuals injured. Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Jonas Agwu, issued a statement in Abuja providing details of the incident.
The crash, involving a DAF trailer, occurred due to factors including excessive speed, overloading, and driver fatigue. The driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to it veering off the road and crashing into a ditch. The accident took place at 10:30 on Monday, March 18, involving a total of 172 male adult passengers.
FRSC rescue teams swiftly responded, evacuating the injured victims to Saint Anthony and Umaru Musa Yar Adua hospitals. Tragically, 10 individuals lost their lives, and the deceased were transferred to the morgues of the respective hospitals.
Efforts are ongoing to provide necessary medical attention to the injured victims. In response to the incident, Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu has directed Sector Commanders to intensify enforcement and advocacy campaigns against the unsafe practice of trailers carrying passengers atop goods.
Additionally, commanding officers are instructed to implement result-oriented patrol operations and organize Mobile Court operations along critical corridors to enhance road safety and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
