Operations have begun at the Port Harcourt Refinery, sparking optimism among marketers for lower petrol prices. Two major marketers' associations anticipate more affordable prices as tankers gear up to receive products from the refinery. Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, confirmed the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt refinery.
In response, marketers are urging NNPC to fulfill its pledge of pumping refined products from the plant within two weeks, as they stand ready to load products from the facility. Abubakar Maigandi, the National President of IPMAN, noted that while petrol prices are expected to decrease once products start flowing from the plant, he emphasized that the reduction would be marginal. He stated, "Price reduction is obvious when they start releasing products, and there will be availability because it would serve as support to the imported products."
